Conservation of resources and the environment play an important role for Vienna Insurance Group. This can be seen in the use of district cooling for energy-efficient air conditioning in the Company headquarters, products that promote environmentally-friendly customer behaviour and sustainable building methods for new construction projects.
Several examples of resource conservation in VIG:
District cooling provides environmentally-friendly air conditioning in the Group headquarters
District cooling uses waste heat from thermal waste utilisation or electricity generation in a closed cooling water system for building air conditioning. Due to its highly efficient generation mix, district cooling in Vienna makes a significant contribution to CO2 reduction and is considerably more cost-effective than conventional cooling methods. The Schottenring district cooling station officially began operating in the first half of 2013. Along with a number of other companies, the Ringturm headquarters of VIG Holding and Wiener Städtische were also connected to the Schottenring district cooling network.
Wiener Städtische climate protection partnership with Wien Energie
Wiener Städtische is increasingly using district heating to provide heat for its office buildings, thereby contributing significantly to the reduction of the greenhouse gas CO2. A climate protection partnership with Wien Energie Fernwärme is aimed at further increasing the use of district heating and lowering emissions even more.
