Vienna Insurance Group employees also spend countless hours doing voluntary work during their spare time. The number of employees regularly involved in such activities can only be estimated based on the large number of nominations that have been submitted for the Award in Recognition of Commitment to Voluntary Activities, which was introduced in 2013. All employees are invited to nominate colleagues who they know do valuable voluntary work in aid of social causes and help the most vulnerable members of society. The winners are then selected from the nominations.

The 2022 award winners from the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Poland and Hungary volunteer for fellow human beings in a wide variety of ways: From active engagement for the blind by practising different sports, organising sport events to collect donations for the needy, distributing food to fellow citizens in need, supporting Syrian and Ukrainian refugees, sewing clothes for premature babies and star children, years of voluntary work in rescue operations, the Red Cross or the volunteer fire brigade, as well as taking in a child from the poorest backgrounds into their own family.
